Explore Kazakhstan's biggest city and the wild natural beauty of the Altyn-Emel National Park enjoying this five day 4x4 Jeep tour of the Almaty region.
Almaty Tour: 5 Days by Jeep
Day 1: Almaty
On your arrival at Almaty Airport, we'll meet you in the arrivals area and accompany you to the hotel where you'll spend the night.
Once you've settled in, we'll embark on a panoramic tour of Almaty to learn all about the vibrant history of the largest city in Kazakhstan and how it has developed over time. During our tour, we'll visit its most emblematic places of interest, including Republic Square, the Independence Monument, Astana Square, the Palace of the Republic and the Presidential Residence.
We'll then stop at a local cafeteria to get a taste for Kazakhstani cuisine before heading to Kok Tobe, or "Blue Hill", home to a 371.5 metre (1,219 feet) tall television tower, from which we'll enjoy panoramic views of Almaty.
Afterwards, we'll return to the city centre to indulge in a delicious traditional dinner before returning to the hotel to relax after a fun-filled day.
Day 2: Almaty - Altyn-Emel National Park - Basshi
Having woken up early for breakfast, we'll set off in the 4x4 vehicle to Basshi, located in the Altyn-Emel National Park around three and a half hours away from Almaty.
Arriving in the national park, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy some delicious local Kazakhstani cuisine. Then with renewed energy, we'll go and drop off our luggage at the hotel in Basshi before entering the spectacular Altyn-Emel National Park. We'll visit one of its most striking natural phenomena, the Singing Dunes, and learn how they earned this intriguing name.
After exploring the national park and enjoying the sand dunes, we'll return to Basshi for dinner and to rest at the hotel.
Day 3: Basshi - Aktau Mountains - Basshi
On the third day of our tour, we'll have breakfast at the hotel in Basshi before setting off to the Open Air Geological Museum, one of the main attractions in the Altyn-Emel National Park.
Thanks to our off-road vehicle, we'll be able to get up close to the enormous limestone rock formations dotted across this beautiful area known as the Aktau, or White Mountains. As we approach the so-called White Mountains, we'll discover that the canyons, cliffs and peaks are actually full of a wide range of colours.
After finishing our Jeep tour of the Aktau Mountains, we'll return to the hotel in Basshi for dinner and to relax.
Day 4: Basshi - Saty
In the morning, we'll have breakfast at the hotel and leave Basshi behind, setting off towards Saty, a small village very close to the Kyrgyzstan border.
When we arrive in Saty after around a four hour drive, we'll settle into a picturesque rural hostel surrounded by the extraordinary beauty of this region of Kazakhstan and immersed in the tranquillity of nature.
We'll then have lunch together at our accommodation before leaving you with free time to relax, go hiking or go explore the local area.
As the sun sets, we'll enjoy dinner together on the last night of our tour.
Day 5: Saty - Lake Kolsai - Almaty
We'll begin our final day with an early breakfast before making our way to Kolsai Lake by 4x4. Walking around the lake, which is located almost 2000 metres above sea level, we'll admire these spectacular natural landscapes characterised by green hills and a unique species of fir trees known as Schrenk's spruce.
After exploring the lake, we'll have lunch in our beautiful surroundings before climbing back into the Jeep for the journey back to Almaty. On the way back, we'll make a stop at the Charyn Canyon and the Valley of the Castles. You'll soon discover how it earned this name!
Arriving in the city following a four hour drive, we'll drop you off at the airport and say goodbye after five wonderful days exploring the Almaty region.
