Archaeology Tour of Bari
Explore Bari's fascinating past on this guided tour of its archaeological remains and discover the treasures hidden within the ancient city walls, excavations and crypts.
Archaeology Tour of Bari
Having met your guide by the steps in Largo Chiurlia at your chosen time, you'll begin your tour of Bari's archaeological sites, delving deep into the lengthy history of the Apulian city.
Firstly, you'll stop at the Chiesa di Santa Teresa dei Maschi Church in Barivecchia, as Bari's historic centre is known. This Baroque-style church is one of the most beautiful in the city, which you'll soon see for yourself as you admire its impressive façade and learn all about it thanks to your guide.
Strolling onwards, you'll reach Palazzo Simi, a former aristocratic residence which is now home to Bari's State Archaeological Centre. You'll spend 40 minutes discovering the historic remains that have been excavated here and visiting the Byzantine church from the 10th century.
Continue on your guided tour of Bari's archaeological legacy along Largo San Sabino and marvel at the perfectly preserved Medieval houses along the way. Arriving at the San Sabino Cathedral, you'll head inside to explore the crypt (entrance not included). You'll feel like you've travelled back in time!
For the finishing touch on your tour, you'll head to the old city wall of Barivecchia in search of the treasures it hides. Your archaeology tour of Bari will then come to an end at Piazzetta Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio after two and a half hours.
