Escape the hustle and bustle of the Curitiba on this hiking route either through Faxina Canyon or to the peak of Araçatuba.
Description
During the booking process, you can choose between the following routes. Each includes hotel pickup and drop–off in Curitiba, transportation by bus or minibus and a Portuguese-speaking guide. You can find the itineraries of each one below:
Faxina Canyon hike
On this hiking route of moderate difficulty, we'll cover about 5 kilometres (3.1 miles). We'll walk to the Faxina Canyon, which is located in São Luíz do Purunã, in the municipality of Balsa Nova, Curitiba.
Almost as soon as our hike begins, you'll be struck by the sheer beauty of this area, which is part of Brazil's Natural Heritage and features rocks that are over 400 million years old. Furthermore, this canyon marks the division between the first and second plateaus of Paraná.
Along the way, we'll come across trails, waterfalls, and natural viewpoints, as well as a perfect spot to take a dip in the river. Here, (depending on the season) we'll stop for around 20 minutes, to enjoy the water.
After around 6 hours of activity, we'll arrive back at your hotel in Curitiba.
Araçatuba Peak Hike
On this option, also of moderate difficulty, we'll go on an 8-kilometre (5 miles) hike to the peak of Araçatuba, the tallest mountain in the south-east of Paraná, with an altitude of 1673 metres (5488 feet). This mountain, located in Tijucas do Sul is part of the Serra do Mar complex just at the border of the state of Santa Catarina.
As we make our ascent, we'll have the opportunity to observe the unique mountain vegetation and experience the microclimate, which is the coldest in Paraná, due to the sea winds. Furthermore, fog, occasional rain showers, and sudden cold spells are not uncommon in this region. At certain times of the year, if we're fortunate, we may even experience snow – a true adventure!
Finally, we will conclude the hiking tour at your hotel in Curitiba after about 10 hours of activity.
