At 11 am, we will meet up in the Plaza de Santa Ana square, next to the Cathedral of Las Palmas. This will be the ideal place to begin a fantastic tour of the Vegueta district that will allow us to discover the fascinating history of the island's capital.
During the tour, we will talk about how the sea has influenced the foundation of the city and we will comment on the many battles that have been fought in this area. European colonizers, pirates, and aborigines have all helped to shape the fascinating history of Las Palmas.
We will first visit the Cathedral of Santa Ana, a symbol of the city. The temple, which combines neoclassical, renaissance, and gothic elements, will surprise you with the beautiful decoration of its exterior and interior. We will also visit the cathedral museum to discover all the amazing treasures that this monument holds.
After this visit, we'll tour the Vegueta neighbourhood and part of Triana. We'll walk along its beautiful cobbled streets and see the colourful facades of its buildings. We'll see the Plaza del Espíritu Santo, the Alameda de Colón and the castle of Mata. Did you know that this fortress was built in the 16th century?
Afterwards, we'll arrive at the Museo Casa de Colón. In this building which is over 500 years old, we'll discover the interesting history that unites the famous sailor with the Canary Islands.
