Free Walking Tour of Guatemala City
After meeting at 10:30 am at the entrance of The Westin Camino Real Guatemala Hotel, we'll climb aboard the transmetro, the local public bus service, to go to the civic centre. This area, which acted as the gateway to Guatemala City in colonial times, is home to important buildings such as the Bank of Guatemala, the City Hall and the Miguel Angel Asturias Cultural Centre.
We'll continue our free tour walking over to the Tipografía Nacional building, or national printing house. If you take the tour from Monday to Friday we'll have the opportunity to visit inside the building to see its impressive collection of printing machines. Not far from here, we'll find the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, also called El Calvario, home to some spectacular works of religious art.
We'll then follow the route towards the Church of San Francisco, located next to the Ministry of the Interior, before passing by the beautiful Post Office building. Making a stop in front of the nearby Casa Ibargüen, our guide will reveal all about its history.
The next stop will be in Central Square, where we'll get to admire the National Palace of Culture and enter inside the Metropolitan Cathedral.
At 1 pm, our tour will come to an end in a cafe located in an old restored house.
