Jewish Heritage Private Tour

Discover the Jewish Heritage of Istanbul on this private tour in which you visit the main Jewish neighborhoods and synagogues of the city, while you unearth the history of the Hebrew community in Turkey.

Istanbul Jewish Heritage Private Tour

After collecting you from your hotel, you will board a comfortable private vehicle and head to the Galata neighborhood. This district housed the largest Jewish community in Istanbul.

The first stop of this half-day tour is Ashkenazi Synagogue, the only active synagogue in the city and open to visitors. The temple was established in 1900 by Jews of Austrian origin. Jewish visitors can participate in the daily prayer.

Then, you’ll visit the Schneidertempel, an ancient Ashkenazi synagogue built by this Jewish ethnic division during the Ottoman Empire. It is currently a famous art gallery.

Continue the tour to the Karakoy area, where the prominent Camondo family live and admire the numerous monuments built by this powerful Jewish clan. One of the most impressive landmarks are the Camondo (Kamondo) Steps, erected in 1850 in a mix of Art Nouveau and Neo-Baroque style.

Your knowledgeable guide will reveal the history of the Jewish communities in Turkey while you do an interactive tour of the Neve Shalom Synagogue, the largest Sephardi synagogue in Istanbul, followed by a visit to the Quincentenial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews.

The tour will end in the centre of Sultanahmet or the Taksim neighbourhood, whichever you prefer.

Full-Day Tour

If you want to learn more about the Jewish heritage in Istanbul, you can also book a full-day tour.

In this case, you will also visit Ahrida Synagogue, Yanbol Synagogue and Etz Ahayim Synagogue, as well as the most famous Jewish neighborhoods and Jewish homes decorated with a Star of David. Finally, you will be led to Balat Jewish Hospital.
