Tour of Bourbon Madrid
The Bourbon legacy in Spain began with the crowning of Philip V in 1700. Madrid has been at the center of this regal history ever since then. With this guided tour, you will discover some of the essential landmarks around the Spanish capital which are testimony to this legacy.
We will start this route through Bourbon Madrid from the heart of the city in the Puerta del Sol square, the meeting point for most people in Madrid. We will meet our protagonist, Charles III, the king who imposed a new classicist style leaving behind the sober style that the Austrias had.
From Sol we head down to the Congress of Deputies, exploring the most iconic buildings of Madrid. Near the Congress of Deputies we will find the Fountain of Neptune, which, along with other fountains such as Cibeles and the Fountain of Apollo, have become some of the top attractions of the area.
We will continue walking along the Paseo del Prado, conceived by Charles III as a garden walk that would house buildings dedicated to science and art. While we find out the reason for all this, we will arrive at Alcalá Street, imposingly guarded by the famous Puerta de Alcalá, one of the five ancient royal gates that gave access to the city.
