Toledo Day Trip by High-Speed Train

In the morning, you'll meet your host inside the Madrid Puerta de Atocha Railway Station and be given your train tickets, Toledo Card and other useful vouchers. You'll then take the high-speed train to one of the most picturesque cities in Spain.

After a 30-minute journey you’ll get to your destination, where you’ll have a full day (if you wish) to explore the “Imperial City”. The Toledo Card is a very useful tourist pass and includes skip the line admission to the impressive High Gothic Cathedral of Toledo, the famous Iglesia de Santo Tomé that houses El Greco’s painting “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz”. The Toledo Card also includes free entrance to Santa María la Blanca, a former synagogue, and you can also visit the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, a magnificent example of Gothic-styled architecture.

The day trip also includes a panoramic sightseeing bus tour. This is the most comfortable way of visiting Toledo and will take you to the Alcazar (Moorish castle) on a hilltop, where you'll get a stunning view of the city. If you wish to take the sightseeing tour upon arrival, there is a bus stop at the Toledo Railway Station.

After a full day visiting the City of Three Cultures, return to the station to take the train back to Madrid.

Cathedral guided tour

If you want to admire the magnificent thirteenth century Cathedral and learn about its foundation and history, we recommend you reserve a one-hour guided tour. The guided tour of the Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary lasts 60 minutes and is simultaneously given in Spanish and English at the following times:

• Sundays: 2 pm and 4 pm.

There are no guided tours of the Cathedral during Semana Santa (Easter week), Corpus Christi, and the on the 15th August.

Walking and Panoramic Bus Tour of Toledo

This high-speed train day trip also includes a walking tour around the historical centre of Toledo. This 30-minute long guided walking tour will be in English and Spanish at the same time.

If you would like to take this tour, please make your way to the meeting point at Calle Armas, 17, Toledo. Tours leave from here at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. 

A panoramic bus tour is also included, this leaves from the train station at 2:15 pm, 4:15 pm, 5:15 pm, 6:15 pm and 7:15 pm. The tour takes around 30 minutes.

Lunch?

If you want to sample a delicious traditional 3-course meal (starter, main and dessert) during your excursion to Toledo, you can choose to add this option to your day-trip. Lunch will either be at La Abadía or Gambrinus, two atmospheric restaurants. If you are travelling with children, the lunch is the same price, even though once in the restaurant they can choose another dish if they don’t like the set menu.  

Transfers from the Train Station

This day trip also includes a bus transfer service from the train station to the Safont platforms, which have escalators which lead to the El Greco Congress Palace in the historical centre of Toledo.

These are the times of the transfer service:

• From the train station: 9:20 am, 9:50 am, 10:50 am, 11:50 am, 3:50 pm and 2:20 pm.
• From the Safont platforms: 4 pm, 5 pm, 6 pm, 7 pm and 8 pm.

Important information

Your train departure time is indicated on your confirmation email. Please be at the Railway Station at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time to collect your tickets and vouchers, pass security control and get on the train.
