Jerusalem, one of the oldest cities in the world, has a past full of religious and political significance. Discover the Jewish Heritage of the sacred city with this tour from Tel Aviv.
Jerusalem Jewish Heritage Tour
After picking you up at your hotel in Tel Aviv, we'll head south-east towards the historic city of Jerusalem.
Once we arrive, the tour around the city's Jewish legacy will begin by admiring the historic centre from Mount Scopus. From this vantage point, we'll get a better understanding of Jerusalem's development over the years.
Our next stop will be Mount Zion. Here we'll learn about Dormition Abbey, where it's believed that the mother of Jesus died, and therefore takes its name from 'dormition' meaning 'coma'. Nearby is King David's tomb, where we'll find out about the history and legacy concerning the famous ruler of the Ancient Kingdom.
As we walk along the ancient Roman street, The Cardo, we'll reach Jerusalem's Jewish neighbourhood. Here we'll walk through the history of the Temple in Jerusalem next to the Western Wall, the only preserved remnant of the old building raided by the Romans. The temple was so rich that it was able to finance a large part of the construction of the Flavian Amphiteatre: The Colosseum.
We'll continue our tour of Jerusalem's contemporary Jewish history at Ammunition Hill, known as the setting of the Six-Day War which occurred in 1967 just a few years after the defeat of Nazism. While we're there we'll also visit the Holocaust Memorial, which commemorates the Jewish victims during the Second World War.
After visiting the memorial we'll head back to Tel Aviv.
