In the Middle Ages, the counts of Anjou decided to demonstrate their power by building a magnificent fortress on the banks of the Maine river: the castle of Angers (Château d'Angers). Over the centuries, the bastion was reinforced until it reached its present incarnation which includes 17 gigantic defensive towers surrounding a deep moat.

Your fast track ticket will enable you to explore the towers and battlements of the fortress. We also recommend a stroll through the castle's famous medieval gardens, where you will feel like true knights or ladies of the county of Anjou.

Also located inside the fort's enclosure you will find the chapel of St. John the Baptist, which houses various works of sacred art dating from the medieval times. However, the principal treasure of the castle is the famous Apocalypse Tapestry. This magnificent 14th-century masterpiece, which spreads out 20 feet high and 350 feet long, narrates the Apocalypse of Saint John.

The canvas on display at the Château d'Angers is one of the most important tapestries in France because of its colossal dimensions and the exceptional state in which it has been preserved. No trip to the castle would be complete without taking some time to see this fabulous work of art.

The castle of Angers opens from Monday to Sunday during the following times:

• From 2 January to 30 April: from 10 am to 5:30 pm.
• From 2 May to 4 September: from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm.
• From 5 September to 31 December: from 10 am to 5:30 pm. On the 24 and 31 December, the castle will close at 4 pm.

Important information: the last admission is 45 minutes before closing time.

With this ticket, you will avoid the queues that normally form at the ticket office of the castle of Angers. Nevertheless, you will still have to join the queue to access the grounds. The security checks usually take just a few minutes.
